Fascinating telling of their courtship and the strange alignment with the tragedy of a naval accident. I was amazed at how complete the story was in just 15 minutes. Looking forward to more episode!
I've recently discovered this podcast and I'm enjoying going through the past episodes. The host is friendly and chatty and lets her personality shine through. As these episodes are a bit on the shorter side, they are perfect for my morning listening. But, I have one petty (but, to me, HUGE) irritation....and I will say that I'm into episodes that originally aired in July 2021, so this may have since been corrected, but the host really needs to look up the meaning of the word "infamous." Infamous and famous are not actually synonyms! Martha Washington is not "infamous" for being the first First Lady. However, Richard Nixon is "infamous" for having to resign the presidency in shame. Every time the word infamous comes up (and it comes up at least once an episode) I just want to scream. Hopefully, the host has learned the error of her ways and is now using "infamous" correctly....
I love many things, but coffee and history are at the top of my list. These bite sized chunks of history are great! The explore some fascinating topics, and the host does an incredible job of breaking down very complex historical topics into something that is easily digestible, informative and entertaining. I know how difficult this can be, having worked on the storytelling podcast - Keepsake. Definitely recommend giving it a try, as I am now subscribed and going through the previous episodes!
Fantastic. I'm struck by how much each episode reminds me of an audio version of PBS ... complete with the jazzy intro/outro music and the "snippets of history" format. Keep up the good work Alycia!
I eagerly wait with a cup of coffee each Saturday for Alycia to release a new episode. With brevity yet detail, I have greatly enjoyed the journey she has taken us on through various points in American history and can’t wait to hear what she has in store for us next.
Nice little bite-sized lessons to start your day. Feels... kind of weird to call a podcast with a drink-aesthetic 'bite-sized' but you know what I mean. Small little jolt of content. So it's an espresso shot...? Honestly this weird existential corner I carved out for myself is the only not likeable thing about this show.
A excellent pod from a dedicated host. Alycia isn't just a self-proclaimed history nerd she is the real deal. You can tell just by listening that she loves the subject and realizes the weight that comes with sharing these stories. She also does a great job of mixing in facts with a little tongue in cheek humor. So take a seat, get a beverage and enjoy Civics and Coffee!
Alycia is a fantastic host, the podcasts keep you glued to it courtesy of its length which is short yet sweet in duration. Considering that my knowledge of American history is limited in scope, Alycia’s podcasts shares such fascinating insights and tidbits from the past that really leaves me looking forward for more. Every podcast has a carefully selected narrative and script doesn’t tend to go off the radar thanks to her good preparation and coming across as so natural while presenting it. Wish her the best of luck and looking forward as usual to her future episodes.
History is a complex subject that too often gets too bogged down. Civics and Coffee does it right. Bite sized episode you can listen to with your favorite beverage handled in a well researched manner that will have you questioning your assumptions. Great work
Alycia’s podcast episodes are short, sweet, and funny! I love the jazz intro and call me crazy but I actually listen to the podcast *gasp* with tea in the evening. I make a little tea and get a bite size history lesson before bed. Really, it’s a great podcast for all hours! I particularly enjoyed the episodes on Hannah Adams, the Whisky Rebellion, and the two party system.
This podcast is well researched, well presented, and wonderful on every single subject. 100% recommend to anyone.
Just finished the Frida Kahlo episode, and I loved it! Great writing, great voice. Lovely bit of history! Highly recommend!
Great informative podcast where I learn some tidbit of history that inevitably got glossed over in my school age years. Alycia is a natural raconteur with a passion for history and it shows. Pour yourself a cuppa and have a listen.
I love that I can get facts and stories so quickly! The host is easy to listen to and adds in some humor for good measure.
I love the the learning about civics, who knew!? If only they would have served coffee and had host (as opposed to a teacher) who brings the characters, events settings of history to life in such an entertaining way. Keep up the good work!!
I love coffee. I love learning the truth about history (rather than what I learned in school). This podcast is perfect. Bite-size (sip-size?) episodes teach me new things every time. The information is easy to absorb. This is a must-listen.

This is a fantastic podcast where I'm learning history (don't want to be doomed to repeat it) in little coffee cup sized snippets. I truly appreciate the lesser known topics that was never taught during my schooling years, and it is all presented in a smart and approachable way. Do yourself a favor and get this podcast in your face!

I love Alycia’s short and sweet (and funny) history lessons on Saturday mornings while drinking a cup of coffee! It’s nice to learn random tidbits of history that I never knew about. My 8 year old loves listening too!! Can’t wait for more!
